Taste the Tradition

Lowcountry heritage served from the hearth. Authentic Gullah Geechee recipes passed through generations of Sea Island cooks, brought to the streets of Beaufort.

Our Roots

Deeply anchored in Sea Island soil.

The Gullah Geechee are descendants of West and Central Africans who were enslaved on the rice, indigo, and Sea Island cotton plantations of the Lowcountry coast. Isolated on these tidal islands, they preserved a distinct language, craft, and cuisine that still shapes Beaufort today.

Every plate we serve honors that unbroken thread — from hand-harvested Carolina Gold rice and slow-simmered field peas to the salt-water shrimp pulled from Port Royal Sound before sunrise. Family recipes from St. Helena Island, prepared with the seasonal harvest of local Beaufort growers.

A portion of every catering booking supports the Penn Center and the preservation of Gullah cultural heritage.
